Emergency

Critical Care/ Emergencies:

Emergencies are given first priority at our office.  If your pet is seriously ill or injured, and it is during normal business hours, please contact our office if at all possible as you bring your pet in.  We may have special instructions for the safe transport of your pet.  Critical care services include IV fluid therapy support with automatic fluid pumps, blood transfusions, management of shock, oxygen therapy, incubation, and advanced monitoring in our intensive care hospitalization area. For after-hours emergencies, please contact 336.8900 for instructions. The following emergency clinics are available if your pet is seriously ill or injured after hours or on holidays:

--Indiana Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center, 8250 Bash St. (82nd and Bash in Castleton), 317.849.4925. (8.3 mi.)

--Circle City Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center, 9650 Mayflower Park Dr., Carmel, 317.872.VETS (8387). (19.3 mi.)

--Northwood Animal Hospital, 3255 N. State Rd. 9, Anderson, 1.800.341.6111 or 765.649.5218. (27.8 mi).

--Noah’s Animal Hospital, 5510 Millersville Rd. (56th and Emerson), Indianapolis, 317.244.7738. (13.3 mi.)

While none require appointments, it helps them to know when you will be coming so they can prepare, so phone ahead if possible. If you have concerns about your pet going into an evening, weekend, or holiday, please phone or e-mail the office while we are still open, and we can very often offer options to contact or be contacted by the doctor after-hours. Dr. Risser sometimes covers holiday and weekend Emergency/ Critical Care shifts at VCA’s West 86th Street Animal Hospital and is readily available to see your pet or answer questions.
